About Dr. Robin Li - Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Robin Li, PhD is NY- and NJ-licensed, with more than 20 years of counseling experience in chronic depression, persistent anxiety and trauma.
She earned her degrees in Counseling Psychology, which include an M.A. and Ed.M. from Teachers College, Columbia University and a Ph.D. from Fordham University. Living in Manhattan during 9/11, she witnessed the chaos and sorrow firsthand, which deepened her commitment to service and helped shaped her understanding of resilience, trauma, as well as the long arc of recovery.
Her specialized PTSD training includes clinical work with active-duty service men and women at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL), and veterans at VA hospitals in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and New Jersey.
She is an Asian American psychologist and also speaks Mandarin. Her bicultural background, training in multicultural competency at Columbia University, counseling work at Gouverneur Hospital’s Asian Bicultural Center in Chinatown, and expat living in Asia inform her competency in working with diverse individuals and identities. She has lived and worked across vastly different cultural environments and understands that identity can be shaped by more than one culture, language, and set of expectations. At the same time, she does not assume that your experience is the same as anyone else's simply because some aspects of cultural background are shared.
Dr. Li’s background also includes past lectures and supervision of aspiring Master’s-level students, guiding clinical skill development and ethical practice.
In more recent years, Dr. Li also gave back to her local hometown residents by volunteering to serve on the Board of Trustees for NAMI Mercer, helping to raise awareness and destigmatize mental healthcare via community outreach and educational workshops and talks.
Her Approach to Therapy
Dr. Li uses evidence-based therapy to help you release the pain of sadness, anger and confusion. If you’re stuck repeating the same frustrating behaviors and thought patterns despite wanting something different, this is where Dr. Li’s expertise can make a difference. She can offer understanding and help you to change old habits that hold you back from living the life you choose.
Her approach favors depth over temporary symptom relief. Guided by a discerning therapeutic eye, sessions unfold in her Princeton office surrounded by nature, or virtually from your home—where measured conversation, mindful silence, and deep insight converge to foster lasting change.

When You Want a Therapist Who Understands That Culture Is Part of Your Story
Living between cultures brings richness and complex expectations. Culture is personal. Family is personal. So is your relationship with your heritage, identity, and community. Therapy is a place to explore what these experiences mean uniquely to you.
Family expectations
Assimilation and cultural differences
Questions of identity and belonging
Intergenerational conflict
Tension between who you are expected to be and who you want to become is too great
